Antonio Concilio

Biography

Special Projects, Head, CIRA – the Italian Aersopace Research Centre

 

Antonio Concilio obtained the Diploma in Aerospace Systems Integration from ISAE-SUPAERO (Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace) on April 18, 2008. He earned a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II on November 27, 1992, and a cum laude degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the same university on December 15, 1988.

As of February 26, 2026, according to Scopus, the statistical indicators summarizing his research activity are: H-index: 29; Documents: 217; Co-authors: 221; and Total Citations: 2,555 from 1,478 documents.

He obtained the qualification of Full Professor through the ASN (National Scientific Qualification) on August 8, 2018. He also obtained certification as an Expert Engineer in the Aerospace sector from CERT’ING, a division of the Italian National Council of Engineers, on July 1, 2024.

Since May 2005, he has taught the annual course “Introduction to Smart Structures and Their Applications” at the Doctoral School in Industrial Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II. He has also delivered several other non-regular courses at Italian and international academic institutions.

Among his most relevant publications (all published by Butterworth-Heinemann), the following are particularly noteworthy:

He has led the following research projects:

  1. Principal author and Italian national coordinator of the PNRM project RESUME (Real-Time Structural Health & Usage Monitoring Systems for UAV).

  2. Principal author and leader of the international technological platform ATED (Adaptive Trailing Edge Device), one of the three morphing platforms within the SARISTU project (Smart Aircraft Intelligent Structures, EU, 2011–2015).

  3. Co-author and national coordinator of the PON SMART project (Design and production methodologies for intelligent structural monitoring and adaptive control systems for aircraft and spacecraft, 2002–2006).

  4. Principal author and European coordinator of the IDEA PACI project (Identification of a subjective comfort index for aircraft, EU, 1998–2000).
