Antonio Concilio

Biography

He earned his degree in Aeronautics Engineering with honors at the University of Napoli 'Federico II', Italy, in 1989. He then got his PhD in Aerospace Engineering in 1995, at the same University. In 2007, he completed the ECATA Master Course in Aerospace Business Administration, at ISAE-Supaero, Toulouse, France. Since 1989, he has been a researcher at the Italian Aerospace Research Centre (CIRA), Italy; from May 1st, 2024, he is the Head of the Special Projects Unit, and the Head of the Press and Communication Office. He led CIRA activities within several international and national research contracts on smart structures and noise and vibration control. In detail, he was the PI of the Identification of an Aircraft Passenger Comfort Index project (IDEA PACI, 1998-2001) and the PM of the Design and Realization Methods of Intelligent Systems for the Monitoring and Control of Aeronautic and Aerospace Structures project (PON SMART, 2002-2006). He led an international team to design and test a full-scale Adaptive Wing Trailing Edge (ATED) within the EU large project Smart Aircraft Intelligent Structures (SARISTU, 2011-2015). Recently, he was the Italian PI of the RESUME project, on the testing of Real-Time SHM Systems (2020-2023) within a military international cooperation. He's Honorary Professor at the University of Madrid Carlos III for the AA 2026-2027. He was Adjoint Professor at the University of Rome La Sapienza for the AA 2024-2025, and 2025-2026. He's a Certified Engineer, Expert in Aerospace Engineering, by CERT'ING, a division of the Italian National Engineers' Council, and ACCREDIA, since Jul 1st, 2024. He earned his qualification as Full Professor, ASN (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) on Aug 8th, 2018. According to Scopus, as by Sep 1st, 2026, his H-index rank is 29, with 221 indexed publications, 2730 citations by 1616 documents, and 228 co-authors. He's authors of three large books on morphing and smart structures (in English).
