Daniele Mocio

Born in Viterbo on March 22, 1969, he has been in the Italian Air Force since 1990. He has gained experience in the field of air navigation assistance as well as general and synoptic meteorology, the latter activities carried out both at the National Centre for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology and at NATO Headquarters in Bagnoli (NA). Furthermore, in an international context, he provided support for air, naval and ground operations, contributing to the development of the criteria relating to 'meteorological impacts'. Since 2006 he has been a teacher of general, synoptic and aeronautical meteorology at Air Force training institutions and collaborated until 2018 with the National Department of Civil Protection. Since January 2007 he has also been working at RAI for the creation and presentation of radio/television meteorological programmes. Currently serving at the Air Force General Staff 5th Communications Division, he is employed as an expert in Communication and Public Information in the field of Meteorology and Space. From 2018 until 2024 he served under General Roberto Vittori (an Italian Air Force astronaut with three Space missions to his credit). He currently also holds the role of coordinator of activities linked to Colonel Walter Villadei, also an Italian Air Force astronaut, who has carried out two Space missions: the first in June 2023, Virtute I, with a suborbital flight from the desert of New Mexico, and the second, AX-3, in January and February 2024 aboard the International Space Station. Colonel Mocio is frequently invited to schools of all levels as well as in institutional contexts as a communicator and science populariser.
