Gianni Royer Carfagni

Gianni Royer Carfagni is Full Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Department of Engineering of Systems and Industrial Technologies of the University of Parma, Research Associate at the Institute for Construction Technologies of the CNR, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston, Houston, TX USA. Graduated with honours in Civil Engineering from the University of Pisa and holding a PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Florence, he has carried out post-doctoral research and teaching periods abroad. He is an internationally renowned expert in the field of solid and structural mechanics, author of nearly 200 scientific papers published in international journals. His main research lines concern the mechanics of brittle and quasi-brittle materials (with a specific focus on structural glass), the modelling of innovative structures and composite materials. In 2023 he founded Spaceglass S.r.l., a spin-off of the University of Parma dedicated to the design of transparent composites for space applications, of which he is CEO.
