Biography

Since June 2023, he has been head of the Central Functional Centre, coordinating the governance and management of the national alert system for hydrogeological and hydraulic risk for civil protection purposes. The activities carried out include both forecasting and monitoring and surveillance of hydro-meteorological and hydraulic events and their effects on the national territory. The Department is the National User Focal Point for Italy for the activation of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service and its related satellite mapping services; the Functional Centre supports satellite mapping activities, particularly for floods, both through the Copernicus Service and with the Italian Space Agency for the activation of COSMO SkyMed; furthermore, it actively participates in the development of emergency services for the IRIDE satellite infrastructure. He is responsible for the maintenance and evolutionary development of the National Meteorological Radar Network, and is the reference point for the Agreement signed between the Department of Civil Protection and the Italian Air Force for support to the national civil protection alert system. He has participated in work on algorithms for real-time identification and nowcasting of intense precipitation. He has participated in the testing of the IT-Alert public warning messages. He is a member of the Technical Working Group 'Support to emergencies', in the implementation of the Advanced and Integrated Monitoring and Forecasting System (Investment M2C4M1_I.1.1 of the PNRR). From 2018 to 2023, he served as head of the Functional Centre of the Lazio Region. From 2016 to 2018, he was head of Planning and Organisation of the Regional Civil Protection Agency, Lazio Region.
