Biography

I started as a freelance journalist in London in the 1980s, for Il Mondo and Capital, and part-time at Fleet Street at the Middle East News Agency. In Milan, I was hired by Milano Finanza from issue zero and wrote the first articles in Italy on swaps and derivatives; I then worked at Gentemoney and Plus. Contacted by Gianni Locatelli, in 1990 I joined the editorial staff of Il Sole 24 Ore as deputy section editor: I conceived and managed the Capital Markets page for many years. I am an expert in financial markets, debt and fixed income, bonds and securitisations, derivatives and banking supervision, stablecoins and the digital euro. From 2018 to 2024 I was correspondent from Germany and ECB Watcher for Il Sole 24 Ore; I am now an exclusive contributor. I have taught journalism classes at several universities, have been a member of the Bruegel Review Task Force, and have written for Treccani and Central Banking. I won the Q8 Prize for economic journalism in 1997 and the Premio Ischia for economic analysis in 2013. Author of two books on derivatives. I am the only journalist in Italy to have interviewed Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan: I have interviewed, among others, ECB President Christine Lagarde, former German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, two SSM chairs Andrea Enria and Claudia Buch, EBA chair José Campa, AMLA chair Bruna Szego, and ECB Board members Piero Cipollone and Philip Lane. Graduate of the London School of Economics. I have a son named Ivan.
