Livia Visai

Biography

Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Pavia and Adjunct Professor at ICS Maugeri IRCCS, she is also affiliated with INSTM and CNR-ISSMC. Her research lies at the interface of biochemistry, nanotechnology, nanomedicine and biomaterials, with a strong focus on translational and multidisciplinary approaches. Her scientific work spans space medicine, oncology, infectious diseases and regenerative medicine. In space medicine, she investigates bone loss and osteoporosis associated with microgravity and spaceflight, in collaboration with major international agencies including ASI, ESA and NASA, and through research related to the International Space Station. Her work in nanomedicine includes the development of innovative gold-based nanosystems for cancer diagnosis and therapy, as well as nanomaterials targeting infections and biofilms and advanced biomaterials for tissue regeneration. She has carried out research in the United States, including at the Diabetes Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, and as a Visiting Professor in Houston. She is co-founder and Scientific Advisor of two international spin-off companies and co-inventor of 11 patents. She has authored or co-authored 222 peer-reviewed publications and more than 200 contributions to international scientific conferences.
