Luca Nardi

Biography

Luca Nardi, ENEA researcher, agronomist, PhD in agrobiotechnology, works in controlled environment agriculture. He manages facilities such as the BSL2 experimental greenhouse, phytotrons and clean rooms for sterile hydroponic cultivation, with LEDs adjustable in intensity and spectrum. He has participated and continues to participate in the ASI Bioxtreme, Hortspace, Rebus, Greencube, Microx2 and Beatrice projects on cultivation systems for future human space missions. He has taken part in four analogue missions: AMADEE 18 (Austrian Space Forum, Oman desert, Hortextreme experiment), IGLUNA 2020 (VGELM) and IGLUNA 2022 (LOOPS-M) by Space Innovation, and AMADEE 24, in a desert region of Armenia (2024). He set up a hydroponic garden at the Concordia Antarctic base during the XXXIX Antarctic Campaign. Leader of the MIG project (m-i-g.it), he participated in CHEF and IDROZAFF for three container farms (microgreens, pharma grade saffron) and, within the ASI MICROx2 project, in a container for space applications. Luca Nardi, PhD, is a staff scientist at the Biotechnology Laboratory, ENEA. An agronomist specialized in Controlled Environment Agriculture, he manages the BSL2 greenhouse, phytotrons and clean rooms for sterile hydroponic plant growth, with tunable LED lighting. He takes part in the ASI-funded Bioxtreme, Hortspace, Rebus, Greencube, Microx2 and Beatrice projects (hortspace.enea.it), developing cultivation systems for future manned space missions. He joined four analogue missions: AMADEE 18 (Austrian Space Forum, Oman desert, Hortextreme experiment), IGLUNA 2020 (VGELM) and IGLUNA 2022 (LOOPS-M) by Space Innovation, and AMADEE 24, in a desert region of Armenia (2024).
