Paola Burioli

Biography

Paola Burioli holds a second-level Master's degree in Intellectual Property Valorisation for Knowledge Exchange & Impact (KEI), awarded in 2024 by Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna. Since 2023, the programme has been recognised by the European Commission as a best practice in Knowledge Valorisation (https://shorturl.at/fhimO). Over the past ten years, she has built extensive experience in intellectual property management and technology transfer, supporting the valorisation and societal impact of biomedical research. She currently serves within the Scientific Directorate of the IRCCS University Hospital of Bologna, where she coordinates the Patent and Technology Transfer Office (TTO). Her activities include scouting and evaluating potentially patentable research results, supporting the development and management of the institution's patent portfolio, and facilitating the translation of research outcomes into innovation opportunities. She is also responsible for fostering collaborations with strategic stakeholders from academia, healthcare institutions, industry, and innovation ecosystems at both national and international levels. In addition, she promotes education and capacity-building initiatives related to research valorisation, intellectual property, and innovation management. Through active participation in networking, business matching, acceleration, and entrepreneurship programmes within the Life Sciences sector, she supports researchers in strengthening links with industry and maximising the impact of scientific discoveries. Her professional interests focus on intellectual property strategy, knowledge valorisation, public-private collaboration, and the development of innovation pathways capable of generating scientific, economic, and societal value.
