Stefano Carosio

Biography

Stefano Carosio is Executive Director of STAM, an engineering and technology consultancy active in the space and defence sector. He holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering and an honorary doctorate in Innovation Management. He has 30 years of experience in technology transfer, innovation management and the commercialisation of space technologies and assets, covering market analysis, business modelling and go-to-market strategies. He currently coordinates ESA Technology Broker and ESA InCubed Ambassador activities in Italy, supporting companies in transferring space technologies to terrestrial markets and developing innovative Earth observation applications. His experience in microgravity commercialisation began with activities aimed at promoting the industrial use of International Space Station laboratories and facilitating the spin-in of terrestrial technologies and experiments. More recently, he has contributed to the commercialisation of Space Rider, Europe's reusable orbital vehicle, supporting the identification and development of potential users and applications. He also coordinates STAM's activities within the ESA BSGN Agrifood Industry Accelerator, which fosters the adoption of space-enabled solutions and microgravity research to address innovation challenges in the agrifood sector. He is also a member of the management team of the Africa Business Innovation Lab (ABIL) in Nairobi, implemented by ESA in collaboration with the Kenya Space Agency under the Africa-EU Space Partnership Programme, funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA). ABIL provides funding and dedicated support to Kenyan start-ups and innovators developing and scaling disruptive Earth Observation solutions. Throughout his career, he has contributed to more than 100 collaborative European research and innovation projects (e.g. Horizon Europe) across space, advanced manufacturing, materials, energy, sustainability and life sciences.
